Oh man… Opportunities are most often right before your nose and you are always just too blind to see them//

This time I opened my eyes and had a surprisingly nice trip with 20 strangers that are from other countries (or even continents), have various point of views, different religions or culture.

In one week we managed to visit quite big part of Portugal region called Alentejo. We were traveling around 3 cities (Portalegre, Èvora, Béja) and all of them were COMPLETELY different from each other.

But as always, the article is about food and restaurants, not about people:) and I want to share my experience of 2 places that stood up the most from all trip.

Universidade de Évora canteen

This experience was a bit strange since most of the people are not so keen on canteen food but I wanted to try it just so I could make a comparison.

So first of all, you buy this ticket for 2,90 Eu:

Then you wait in the line for your turn and start picking lunch. At first you can take some bread, then fruit, then dessert (we had chocolate mousse), soup (normally they give you creamed vegetable soup) and then you can choose one of 3 or 2 main dishes.

We could have chose from 3 main dishes: fish with potatoes, meat steak with some rice or rice with duck. Also these ladies puts some salads and give you water or juice.

This is how normal lunch in University look like.

I would say - not bad, not bad at all//

Restaurante Sem - Fim

Uuuu Lala, this place made a huge impact of my understanding about real Portuguese food.

The building is very old (like every other building in Portugal) but I think that is exactly why every one of our group liked it so much. The decor was just superb!!! They have some old barber chairs, giant or very small tables, everything is colourful and looks like it is made in the other world.

If you go outside - you can hear sheeps bells ringing, one little pony is running somewhere there in the field and every little detail of this brings your mind so much peace.

And now - the best part!!

So as a starter we got boiled and marinated carrots with garlic and parsley, chickpeas with codfish and huge plate of bread.

Then we got this soup. Ajaj… It was a dream come true… A miracle. Something that you adore so much that it is hard to believe it’s true.

It was a Portuguese tomato soup with potatoes, eggs and cheese. One of my friends eat 3 bowls of it. 3 bowls. Can you imagine?

It is a wonderful soup. Definitely getting the recipe, trying at home and sharing with you guys:)

After that we got the main dish. It doesn’t look as good, but the taste was pretty nice! It was some salads, grilled meat, potatoes chips and another typical Portuguese dish that is bread cooked together with some fat and herbs.

Aaaand the best version of Arroz Doce was also there on the table…

Absolutely amazing lunch - the best that I had this whole month.

Definitely putting it in my top 10 list and for all this meal you would pay around 20 Eu (wine included)!

Short version of food journey this week: lots of coffee, lots of bread, lots of wine and hundreds of desserts. That is not only Alentejo, that is what all Portugal looks like to me.

Yet, I will stay in this region for a bit more time, maybe something will change my mind but for now - I love it!

Obrigada, tchau xx
